I stopped in twice on my visit to see friends, and the desserts alone would bring me back. The chocolate cake was heavenly, and the second time I spotted other treats people had ordered too. That second visit was Sunday, before I headed home. I had the locally sourced pork chop with mushroom sauce, vegetables and wild rice, followed by a rich but light chocolate mousse. A really good meal for the price. The first visit was for the charity quiz night. The questions were a bit tough, but I had a lovely evening, and the €16.50 covered the quiz and a nice shepherds pie. They’d raised a good amount for a local women’s shelter, so I figured much of the price must be going to charity too. Dessert cost a little extra, and I was pleasantly surprised to have two choices. I’ll be back on my next trip.

The monthly quiz is excellent, which makes it a shame that this was my second bad meal out of three there. The first was a supposedly mild curry that was too hot for me to eat, and nobody apologized then either. This time the advertised meal was steak pie, but my slice had only two very small pieces of steak. The rest seemed to be beetroot and, I think, potato. I may just have been unlucky, since the other two people at my table had slices full of steak. When I mentioned to the chef that the filling should be distributed more evenly, I got a shrug and no apology. It cost 16€ per person for the quiz, including a compulsory main meal. Dessert was another 2.50€.

The food was amazing when the four of us came for dinner last night, and we all had a great time. We know you’re the new owners, and you’re off to a great start. We’ll definitely come by again soon. Good luck to you both, we really recommend the place.

The veal fry in Madeira sauce was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth, served with Bubble and Squeak.
