Although we enjoyed the food, it felt expensive for what we received. The portions were very small: the escargots starter was good, the fish came with a nice salad but only two very small prawns, and the pork had just a spoonful of ratatouille, two tiny figs, and no rice or potatoes. One person in our group has diabetes and needed bread when we got back because he’d taken insulin expecting more food. The chef sitting in the corner of the dining room using his computer also felt a bit strange.

We were reluctant to leave and will certainly come back. The best part was dinner from the award-winning chef, served in the garden with a view over the countryside. Breakfast was excellent too. We were impressed by the country retreat’s setting and warm welcome, and our room was spacious and comfortable, with an ensuite wet room.

Those three nights at Auberge de la Source du Peyssou with our cocker spaniel left us eager to return and spend more time with Grete. We were welcomed so warmly, and you could tell the meals were cooked with love. The panna cotta deserves a special mention! Don’t hesitate to go, there’s no need to look elsewhere in the area. We were four at dinner last night, seated outside on the lovely terrace. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious, and you could really taste that freshness. Grete, a very friendly Belgian hostess, handled everything by herself, hats off to her. If you’re staying in the area, this is absolutely worth recommending. Be sure to book ahead!
