Hôtel Restaurant La Madeleine

That homemade birthday cake with our name on it was such a thoughtful touch. We came as a family for my 30th, and the welcome was incredibly warm. The waitresses were lovely, and the food was excellent. Thanks again!

The place has a nice atmosphere and the service was efficient, which makes the meal all the more disappointing. My dish looked like leftovers thrown together, with a bland tomato sauce and a few canned mushrooms, then served up carelessly after being microwaved. The meat was roughly cut and reheated too. It's not necessarily the ingredients that are the issue, but there didn't seem to be any serious effort in preparing the food. It felt like a rushed, slapdash job. See the photo 🥴.

The staff gave us an excellent welcome, and that's the main reason for my 3 stars. Still, the visit was disappointing. We came for a drink and were shown a menu, then told that after the management change almost nothing was available except a Spritz. We tried it, but it tasted more like Vouvray and clearly had no Aperol. It was much the same when ordering food. We were told the menu was fully available, but the salmon had somehow run out by the time we ordered. They offered halibut as an “equivalent,” though it really wasn't. Profiteroles were out too, so we were steered toward a Tarte Tatin described as “better than the Tatin sisters’.” Sadly, it didn't live up to that. There wasn't much transparency. For your information, these reviews are from the previous manager. I also overheard the bartender's conversation over the loudspeaker, which was a shame.

The chef had put together a festive menu suggestion, and it was a lovely touch. We stumbled on La Madeleine et Max restaurant on the evening of January 1st and were glad to find it open. The setting was beautiful, the welcome warm, and the food delicious. There was an excellent wine selection too, and the prices felt very fair. I'd highly recommend it and would happily return if we're in the area again.
