La Villa Du Bassin

The villa worked well for a family gathering, with enough separate space for six adults over our two-day stay. Every bedroom has its own bathroom and toilet, so you still get privacy even though the living area is shared. We also really appreciated the pool and jacuzzi, the well-equipped kitchen, and the outdoor dining area in summer. There’s a useful catering service if you’d rather not cook, which helps since restaurant choices nearby are limited. The Bassin Bleu dive site is within walking distance, as is a good bakery. The downside was upkeep. Little issues added up: the upstairs bathroom is tiny, some doors don’t shut properly, and there were power cuts. The facilities really need renovating.

The owners are lovely and the food is divine, which makes the rest all the more disappointing. The room doesn’t look like the Booking.com photos at all. It’s poorly finished, has no air conditioning, and there’s a musty smell under the terrace tiles. Stagnant water leaves the terrace full of mosquitoes, and holes in the room let animals get inside. Even the curtain rod wasn’t straight. Oddly, the owners’ own house seems well designed.

The house has a lot of potential, but it needs serious renovation, and the price feels excessive for what you get. The call started off well, with an “upgrade” to the Harmony room, but then the toilet smelled of urine and there was a power cut, probably because of old wiring. We were greeted by three cans of insecticide, though thankfully there weren’t any insects. A pool and an inflatable jacuzzi don’t make up for all that. Very average, and we don’t recommend the place or plan to return.

The bedding was excellent and the welcome very warm. The room itself is pleasant, and I’d recommend it to travelers or locals, especially since you can book the entire villa. A small drawback: the patio doors are in poor shape, with some makeshift repairs that should be easy to put right.
