Villa Des Figuiers

Julio, the butler, gave me a wake-up call each morning, which made the stay feel a little more special. I was lucky enough to meet a lovely French girl there too, and I won't forget the place. I had a lovely long weekend at La Villa des Figuiers, with fantastic food, a great host, and a fantastic location.

The room was comfortable and practical, and the pool was a lovely way to cool down. Yvan also makes excellent evening meals with care. Mornings were simple but really good, with fresh bread, homemade jams, and madeleines 😁😉. If you like a friendly, peaceful place with a personal touch, Yvan will look after you.

The place is peaceful, with plenty of room to walk around, park, and enjoy the greenery and fresh air. It works well as a base for relaxing, walks, sightseeing, and exploring nearby. There was plenty of equipment for cooking, meals, and spending time there, and comfort-wise nothing seemed to be missing. The old building's thick walls helped keep it cool to a point, though it depended on the room. We had to open windows at night for the air, despite the mosquitoes, and shut them during the day. There is no air conditioning. There are two friendly dogs, as the owner mentions in the listing. They sometimes squabble and beg for food all day, which can mean small accidents with children and extra stress to manage on holiday. We knew about them beforehand. A lot of the maintenance and cleanliness could be better. My room was dusty in spots, the bathroom bulb didn't work, and there were stained walls, cobwebs, and a sheet with a crusty mark. The towels didn't smell clean. Outside, the lounge cushions were sun-faded and not very clean. The pool coating was peeling and green in places, and its cover didn't work, so there was no safety for small children. We would have liked to know that in advance. The barbecue was rusty and the grill dirty. The outdoor kitchen is open to the elements, with no indoor kitchen; its worktop was in poor shape and dirty when we arrived, especially near the coffee maker. The sink was dirty too, the drain clogged, and the tap faulty. We stayed at Villa des Figuiers in Saint Bonnet du Gard from Saturday, July 30th to Saturday, August 6th, 2022. The bedrooms, bathrooms, pool, garden, terraces, kitchen, and barbecue all need improvement in quality, cleanliness, and safety. It's a shame, since the amenities are generally there, but there seems to be some snag or missing detail. We still had a very good time, though with reservations depending on what you expect. I don't think the amenities justify the rental price compared with other houses we've stayed in. It wouldn't take much to make the price and amenities feel more balanced, and the owner seemed attentive and accommodating.

The evening meal was very good, and the owner was welcoming and cooked well, but that wasn't enough to make the stay more than average. The price for one night felt too high, and the rest of the accommodation could use improvement. A better shower and a slightly thicker mattress might have saved us from back pain. I also wish the owner had smiled instead of making snide remarks to my children, who hadn't done anything wrong. The pool's so-called natural color wasn't appealing, and the road traffic was uncomfortably close to the villa. That's just my opinion, but it isn't unreasonable. We stayed in August.
