Chambres d'Hôtes L'Echappée Belle

The location is wonderfully quiet, with plenty of space and a pool. It's close to the Loire Cycle Route and only a short distance from EV3, with villages, towns, and plenty to do just a few kilometres away. Our room was large and thoughtfully set up, with a comfortable bed and a big bathroom. Breakfast was homemade, and the friendly host speaks fluent English. We also enjoyed dinner there. A good place to stay for a couple of nights.

We spent two lovely days here, and hope to return. Sophie gave us helpful tips on nearby sights, including the Scottish town close by. The village was a delight to drive into, with a Chateau on the hill, though it isn't always open to the public. We drove down a lane to closed gates, rang, and they opened so we could park. Our upstairs room was lovely and quiet, and we never felt like intruders. We could also use the separate games room and upstairs lounge. The meals, made with local produce, were delicious and beautifully presented. It was a fabulous way to finish our holiday in France, with Orleans about half an hour away and Chateaus down the road.

We wanted a truly "french" stay, and that's what we got. The country home is wonderfully placed for exploring the Loire valley, and our bright, spacious room had everything we needed. Breakfast was a lovely, typically french start to the day. We used the new swimming pool every day, and there was also a brand new petanque court. On our last evening, Sophie surprised all eight guests with an opening celebration for the court, complete with Champaigne, finger food, and a game of petanque. Then came an amazing banquet for dinner, after other evening meals that were exceptional and gave us a chance to share the day's experiences with fellow guests. We live in New Zealand and will come back to see Sophie and enjoy the "french" way of life.

We stayed for two nights and could easily have stayed longer. L’Escappee Belle is in a peaceful, lush green setting not far from the pretty town of Gien. The 1700s house has huge beams and lovely terracotta floors, with a careful renovation that keeps its character while adding the mod cons. Sophie made us feel welcome straight away. She makes her own breakfast yoghurt and jam, and can prepare delicious evening meals on request. She also takes care of her gorgeous dog Flynn, and seems to do a bit of everything, from cooking and gardening to travel advice and conversation. It's a pretty, relaxing place, with plenty to see and do nearby if you fancy an outing. We'll be back!
