Domaine de Janis - Spa de nage

The location is fantastic, but the place really needed a thorough clean. The kitchen was dirty, cobwebs were all over the main room, and we had to wash the dishes again. The old sun loungers could do with replacing. There’s no pétanque court, and it isn’t suitable for wheelchair users: there are no seats in the shower.

We especially enjoyed the homemade meal made with seasonal produce, which added to the relaxing feel of the stay. The property is also well placed for exploring the region. Marc gave us a warm welcome, and our room was lovely and tastefully decorated. The valley view from the pool and jacuzzi made us want to stay there and watch the sunset, and both were accessible throughout our visit. I highly recommend it.

We were left without a place to stay in the middle of peak season, with nearby accommodations fully booked, after the host canceled our reservation by phone. We’d booked a room on Saturday for Sunday night and called because online payment wasn’t possible, just to confirm the booking had gone through. He said it had, then asked whether we’d be having dinner at his table d'hôte on Sunday. We hadn’t decided, since it depended on our schedule, and he simply asked us to call if we wanted to eat there. When we called on Sunday to say we wouldn’t, he canceled the room. He said it wasn’t “interesting” for him because he needed to “make ends meet,” and didn’t want people just coming to sleep and “enjoy the spa” without dining there. His website never says dinner at the communal table is mandatory for an overnight stay. The booking page lets you uncheck the €40/person meal option, which I did, and his earlier question sounded like we had a choice. We were trying to be honest about not eating there, but he chose to cancel our booking. It was the end of August, and finding somewhere else nearby was difficult. I absolutely don’t recommend this place, even though it had seemed charming and the reviews were very enthusiastic.

We loved our week at this exceptional bed and breakfast. It was peaceful and surrounded by nature, while still close to major attractions such as Rocamadour. Marc went out of his way to make the stay enjoyable and gave us great tips on places to visit. The swimming pool is amazing. We’ll be back soon.
