Le Logis D'arniere

After a stressful day with our car being towed to a local garage, we arrived without warning in the early evening and were welcomed so kindly. We got to see the family room before paying, and having two separate bedrooms worked perfectly with our 4 year old. The rooms are simple and a little quirky, which suits the charm of the old building. The hosts even made us a wonderful dinner, a three course meal with a bottle of wine, which we ate outside on the terrace. They did so much for us when they hadn't been expecting us, and we were really grateful.

The peaceful grounds and terrace views of horses grazing made this a lovely place to unwind. It’s a beautiful historic home just southwest of paris, about 34 minutes by direct train from gare austerlitz in paris. The couple who have owned it for 40 years welcome guests and speak english, french, and spanish. You can request breakfast or dinner, and dinner is prepared by a Moroccan chef. Most rooms have large private bathrooms, and the house has striking wood and stone details, including versailles-style parquet floors and stone fireplaces. There are also a few event spaces and adjoining rooms for families with kids. It’s about a 30min drive to versailles and around 1.5 hours to monet’s home.

We enjoyed every minute here. The garden and terrace were lovely, and the breakfast room was amazing. It’s a beautiful old lodge, with each room kept in its original state, such a welcome change from the same old hotel standard.

The family’s hospitality and the house’s character made this a five star stay for me. It’s a real bed and breakfast with old world country charm, and the house is about 500 years old, or at least I think that’s what they said. How often do you get to experience that? I loved it. It’s an old place, so there were some pipe noises and a slightly musty smell, though neither bothered me. Breakfast was simple, just coffee, orange juice, bread and butter, jam, and croissants, and they provided free wifi. If big breakfasts and lavish accommodations matter most to you, this might not be the right fit.
