The staff made a big difference for us. They were welcoming and patient with our questions, from directions and transport advice to little requests. Breakfast was a simple, well-organized buffet with a good choice of food and drinks, a nice way to start the day. We stayed at ibis Budget Paris Porte de la Chapelle – Aréna as a family and found it a pleasant, handy base for seeing Paris on a budget. The family room was clean and functional, but felt cramped for three people and our luggage. It's fine if you're out sightseeing most of the time, though families wanting room to relax indoors may find it tight. A good affordable option if you know the room space is limited.

The staff were helpful, and the hotel itself is large with standard rooms. The nearby area wasn't very nice, and the metro was a 5-10 minute walk away. Breakfast didn't have much variety. Parking was €20 a day, but when I went to leave, the payment machine wasn't working. I had to go to the next hotel to pay, which wasted time.

It worked fine for our stopover, and the Metro made it easy enough to get into the centre. We paid £56 a night. The room was very small, but the shower pod was interesting, and the shower was pleasant, more like a mist than a powerful spray.

The shower drain in room 127 was clogged and nearly overflowed while I was using it. I stayed one night at ibis Budget Paris Porte de la Chapelle, in a second-floor room facing the street. When I arrived, the window had no handle and both panels could open fully, with no visible lock. I raised a safety concern, but was told opening the window was forbidden, which didn't solve it. Staff only found a handle and locked the window after I said I wanted to check out and asked for a full refund. A basic safety problem shouldn't take firm pressure from a guest to fix. Solo travellers, especially women, should check the window security on arrival. Guests come to hotels to rest, not find and fix room problems themselves. Routine maintenance and safety checks should have caught this before the room was assigned.

The tram makes it easy to get wherever you need to go, and the Metro and bus are close by too. Check-in was easy, the rooms were clean and tidied every day, and the staff were lovely and funny. One staff member also pointed us toward some great places to visit.
