Camping la Chalaronne

A good place to pause on the way south or on the return trip. The village is close enough to reach on foot and has everything you need. In the cool March weather, I especially appreciated the warm toilet block and hot water. That’s what matters when you’re caravanning.

It was incredibly peaceful here, and we liked the feel of the place a lot. The site sits among mature oak trees beside the Soane estuary, with spacious, well-kept pitches. The welcoming people who run it care about recycling and composting, and the new facilities were beautifully clean. Very dog friendly, too.

We were only stopping on the drive back to Dieppe, but enjoyed it enough to add another night. There are lovely walks nearby, and the large pitches sit right by the river. The setting is peaceful and beautiful, the management friendly and efficient, and the price very reasonable. Spotless facilities with hot showers, and dogs are welcome. Highly recommended.

The sanitary block was spotless every time, and the takeaway was nice. We didn’t try the restaurant. The pitches are under trees, which is useful in hot weather, though there were lots of broken twigs on the ground. Also, despite the advertising, not many pitches are actually on the riverbank. Reception gave us a friendly welcome, and the man opened up for us even though it was closed for lunch. Very friendly, and English is spoken.
