The owner was so helpful, and we got by with the little French we know. The cottage itself was quiet at night, with comfortable beds in the two rooms we used upstairs. Downstairs, there’s a spotless bathroom with lots of towels, plus a cosy living room and an open kitchen and dining area that has everything you need. We had the whole place for one night, two adults and a child. I wish we’d booked longer to slow down and explore around here. We were driving, and LES GRANDES VIGNES worked out wonderfully for visiting Giverny, Vernon and Chateau Gaillard, which were on our list. We’d hoped for that warm, charming Normandy country house with a garden, and that’s what we found.

The terrace looking out over the big garden was a lovely bonus, and the loft room is especially nice. There are plenty of beds and space, and everything was clean and tidy when we arrived. It’s a beautiful place, with a warm welcome, and just a short walk from Monet's house. Finding it can be tricky, though, and take care getting a low car into the drive. You can park across the lane instead. The shower works well but could use a better head and a shelf. The kitchen isn’t ideal if you want to cook, since there are no worktops. We had to plug the toaster in on the floor. Still, don’t let that put you off.

The upstairs felt like Rapunzel’s tower to my kids, who loved it. We were a family of five, and the gite had lots of room for all of us. The grounds were lovely too. We only stayed one night, but I’d highly recommend it.

We got there early for Monet's gardens and had a lovely picnic dinner out on the terrace. The owner was kind and helpful, and the gite near Giverny was absolutely lovely.
