That cheese board was something else, and dinner for all 24 of us was lovely. Breakfast was a good continental spread too. The rooms have a very unusual feel, like old monks' quarters, and are practical, though I didn't really get on with the wet room. The stay was let down by the staff not being particularly friendly.

The rooms were really clean and comfortable, though the decor is fairly modest, which is reflected in the price. There's so much history and character in the building, and the grounds are wonderful. We loved the amazing views and really enjoyed our stay. The restaurant was excellent too.

The restaurant is in another part of this huge old monastery, and the meal menu del dia was excellent. The room was a large three-bed room, with comfortable beds, though it smelled freshly painted. They're short-staffed, as so many places are this year. Parking is secure, and the gates close at night. If you like your meat well cooked, you might want to avoid the restaurant.

Breakfast was pure chaos, and the price wasn't what booking had stated. The restaurant had closed without warning, and when we got lost in the building and took a wrong turn, the chef shouted at us. On arrival we waited ages because reception was unattended, then the receptionist was surly and even berated her colleague in front of us. This may once have been a charming monks' seminary, but now it's truly awful and well past praying for. Avoid!
