Château de Saint Etienne

We stayed for three days with our family and felt at ease thanks to the friendly owners. The chateau and its beautiful surroundings make this a lovely spot for a relaxed break, or a short stop on the way to the South or West of France. It has recently been fully renovated, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and furnished with care, each with its own character. The pool is gorgeous, and the fresh local food was delicious. A unique place to relax, eat, and enjoy the building and its setting.

We only had two nights here and wished we could have stayed longer. It’s wonderfully peaceful, with comfy beds and delicious food. Håvard and Kenneth were such good hosts, and the owners have renovated the chateau beautifully. There are enjoyable trips a short drive away, including a visit to Vichy, and plenty of nearby hikes if you’re after more exercise. We’ll definitely be back.

We had a lovely time and will definitely return. The Scandinavian room was spotless, had everything we needed, and looked out onto the new swimming pool in the backyard. We were lucky with the weather, so we ate a delicious breakfast outside, with fresh eggs from the chickens wandering around. There’s plenty to do nearby, from cycling and walking to kayaking. We enjoyed some road cycling trips and earned a little extra wine and cheese afterward. The chateau combines authentic features with modern touches and thoughtful design. Håvard, Kenneth, and Patsy the dog made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Driving through the gates and seeing the Chãteau between the trees was instantly peaceful. Great people and a lovely atmosphere.

We stayed with our family of six in July. Breakfast was served in the garden each morning by Havard, who was a lovely host, and if you choose to have dinner at the chateau, he knows his way around the kitchen. The three themed rooms are wonderful and have splendid beds. The shower in the castle’s former tower is a real experience. We were able to use the swimming pool even though it was still under construction. As we say in the Netherlands, staying here feels like being a “God in Frankrijk,” or living in clover. It’s the place to be.
