Au Figuier des Cévennes

A really handy stop. We picked up plenty of bread and croissants, and had a delicious meal too, a burger and goat's cheese salad. We speak very little French, but everyone was patient and incredibly helpful.

The pastries were perfect every morning, and the evening menu was very good as well. The hamburger was amazing, just pretty wet with all the fillings, so eat it quickly before the bread falls apart.

There are lovely self-catering rooms above the cafe, right next to the church. The restaurant is really excellent, and after a long walk it's great to sit outside with a well-earned drink.

Robert Louis Stevenson wrote about travelling for its own sake, but if he were writing today, he might have made an exception for a trip to Au Figuier. We stumbled on this cozy restaurant during a recent visit and kept coming back. Each time, the staff were just as charming and welcoming, and the bar was well stocked. The food is exquisite but simple French cooking. A stay in the area is better for stopping here. I can't recommend it enough.
