We paid far too much for this place and could have rented someone’s home for less. I wish we had. The owner or clerk kept asking, in a very unfriendly way, where we were going and when. The state of the hotel was awful from the moment we arrived. The dusty lobby was cluttered with dirty clothes, laundry supplies, and other junk, making it hard to get around. The tiny elevator got stuck on the second floor several times, and my husband had to pry the door open so we could get out. We took the stairs after that, but they were full of tools and cobwebs, and there was even a dead bird. Our room was dusty too, with cobwebs hanging above the TV. The curtains were stained and smelled like mildew and smoke. The tub had a brown grime ring, and the slimy shower curtain kept sticking to us while we washed. This was nothing like the listing on Priceline. Find somewhere better and cheaper for the night.

Breakfast was the real highlight at Liberty Mont Blanc, with the mountains around Saint Gervais right there as you ate. There was plenty of cheese, fresh bread and fruit, strong coffee, and an orange juicer that made me question every other OJ. Frederick knows Saint Gervais and the nearby towns inside out, and he’s a straightforward, fantastic host. He let us choose between two rooms, and we picked the one that suited us perfectly. The rooms and facilities are what you’d expect at this level of hotel, but the value is in that breakfast and the host. As an American traveler, I especially appreciated Frederick’s excellent English and how well he understood what visitors from abroad might need. I’d absolutely stay again if I’m back in this small town. Cheers!

The owner’s manner felt a bit odd, and the Wi-Fi system was terrible. The location is excellent, though. It’s a strange old-and-new mix: some bathroom facilities are great, while the lobby, stairs, corridors, and lift feel badly dated and run down. The kitchen smell spreads through much of the entrance.

The restaurant has a lovely view. The rooms are on the small side, but they work fine, and the hotel is close to the lift. It’s about a 10-minute walk into the town centre.

We’ve come back to Hotel Liberty-Mont-Blanc for the fourth year running. The location is just right, and Frederick is a great host.
