Gîte Mont Joly

You walk in and get that instant “awwww” feeling, while wanting to tell the host how kind they are. The rooms are cosy and romantic, with a traditional feel, and there are plenty of shared spaces and amenities. It’s a welcoming, almost magical place, though it definitely isn’t the address for anyone after a modern luxury hotel. The host is about as helpful, friendly, and communicative as you could hope for.

The one drawback for me was the lack of a washing machine for guests. Still, for the price and quality, it’s well worth staying here if you’re after a good-value gite for winter skiing. The room has its own toilet and shower stall, and downstairs there’s a roomy shared area with a communal kitchen. Brendan and Miranda, the owner couple, are very friendly and honest. They do their best to help, give travel advice, and sort out any problems if you tell them, so I’m giving it five stars.

We made friends with the owners’ son pretty quickly after agreeing to an archery contest, with my friend as the target (NOT REAL ARROWS) 😂. They also showed us how to play a game we called “skuttle board,” though I’m sure that isn’t its real name. We had such a good time, and it made our road trip memorable. The friendly atmosphere at Gîte Mont Joly got our trip off to a great start. We’ll definitely return, thanks for a fantastic experience! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We stayed one night in September, a family of four with girls aged 7 and 4. The place is snug and homely, with loads of personality. Brendon, who’s Irish, and Miranda, who’s Scottish, were so hospitable and friendly that in less than 24 hours we almost felt like family. We had a cold beer in hand almost as soon as we arrived. There are cats and kids everywhere, and toys outside for children. Breakfast was delicious and made to order, and you can use the kitchen to make dinner, or head to the many restaurants in the smart town just up the road. It’s well placed for skiing, hiking, or a stop before or after Mont Blanc. If sterile hotels aren’t your thing, this is a lovely antidote. We’ll come whenever we can.
