Hôtel Val Joly

The rooms were cozy, spacious enough, and had a good view. Staff were friendly and welcoming. A free shuttle runs every half hour from outside the hotel to the ski lifts and around town; otherwise, it’s a 15-minute walk downhill to the central square. It was a positive stay, and housekeeping even cleaned our room after noon, when we thought they’d finished for the day. There’s a small locked outdoor shed for ski gear, though we kept ours in the room without any trouble. A few things could be better. The shower was wonderfully hot and powerful, but its holder was missing, so I had to hold it or prop it up. The toilet was very loud and didn’t flush well despite using a lot of water. We were told it had just been replaced after leaking. Free WiFi was slow and dropped out quite often after 8pm, and more power sockets would have helped. Breakfast cost 9€ per person and was a bit disappointing for the price. There were croissants, chocolate viennoise, eggs to boil yourself, toast, cereal, and cold meats. Decent choice, but warm options such as bacon or fried eggs would have been nice. Breakfast is optional, so we bought food from local shops instead. The staff were fine about it. We didn’t try the restaurant, but the menu looked very limited.

Easy to get to the town center, and the rooms were clean with good facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was good. One thing to know: the nonsmoking rooms at the front are right over the smoking area, so smoke can drift up into them.

Small and cozy place, though it’s a bit of a walk from the cable car. Tell the staff well ahead of time if you want to eat at the hotel restaurant.

The host was really kind to us. The WiFi signal was weak.
