Au Logis du Marais Sauvage

Breakfast had loads of homemade choices and was excellent. Our room was spotless, nicely decorated, and just right. The owner was so welcoming and gave us great tips for exploring the Marais Poitevin.

Breakfast is part of the price, with plenty to choose from: brioche, local cake, homemade jam, and savory things like cheese and eggs. The owners greet you with a smile and make you feel very welcome. The room is spacious, very clean, and comfortable, with a double bed and bunk beds for the children. There's a big bathroom with a shower, plus TV and a welcome table with information on activities and tours around the Poitevin marsh. It has all the amenities, including enough room for a wheelchair to move around. Very affordable too. I highly recommend it.

We paid 75 euros for the room and two breakfasts, which was the best part of the deal. There's a fridge-freezer and microwave in the room, and everything else we needed was there too. After 25 years of traveling, this was the first time we'd been treated so well. Absolutely fabulous. Thank you, Madam.

The owners' greed brought the Thénardiers' inn to mind. The place itself may be charming, but I wouldn't set foot there again. I was looking for somewhere to stay for the night, and Booking.com accepted my reservation that morning, along with my request for some flexibility around the rigid check-in times. When I couldn't make the required times, the establishment used its strict cancellation policy to keep my money even though I never stayed. What a welcome.
