L'Escoundillou

The peaceful setting and the view from our room were highlights, along with the amazing food and friendly host. My wife and I have traveled around France a few times, and this hotel is still our favorite. I’d recommend it to anyone.

We enjoyed dinner here so much that we booked another meal for a few nights later before we’d even left. We didn’t stay overnight, but the set menus were tasty, generous, and great value. It’s family-run, and you can tell they take pride in it.

We really enjoyed the local dishes, especially the Aligot and slow-cooked pork, and I’ll miss them. The picnic box was handy since there’s no restaurant nearby and it’s easy to miss the strict French lunchtime. We stayed with our 5-month-old son; the host was very welcoming and kindly provided a baby cot. Merci a Marc and Elodie!

It may feel old-fashioned to some, but I liked the authentic atmosphere, and there’s decent Wi-Fi and a TV in every room if you want them. With two children, we found it really well thought out: there’s a games room and a boot and drying room. It’s very close to Lioran ski station, handy for a family ski or walking holiday in the mountains. The food is brilliant, with generous portions of local cuisine. A surprisingly lovely hotel for somewhere with only two stars, and I’d highly recommend it.
