Camping Le Tropicana

We came back for a second visit, this time driving down from Cherbourg and staying in their accommodation rather than our motorhome. It was quite small, but very clean and had everything we could have asked for. On our first visit, we were in a motorhome, and the pitches seem to have been improved since then, with a better water supply. The pools at Le Camping Tropicana are superb, and the slides are great fun. The pool area and the rest of the site were exceptionally clean. Reception staff were really helpful, and the small bar and restaurant had a friendly feel. The beach is probably a 10-minute walk away. We love the Vendée, and the excellent weather made this stay even better. Thanks, Tropicana, until next time! 👍 We’d recommend it and come back.

There was no camping shop, and we weren’t given basic information when we arrived, like pool, restaurant, or reception opening hours, or how to order bread. The animation team also didn’t speak English, despite the booking websites saying they would. The campsite itself looked good, and the pool with its different slides was very nice.

The pool area is good, and the animation kept the kids happy. There’s a nice bar to sit at too. The main thing missing is a little campsite shop for those last-minute items. And if you leave towels on sunbeds, be warned: the campsite team regularly removes ones that haven’t been claimed when asked. Good exercise!

We really enjoyed our holiday and would like to come back. The site was clean and the staff were friendly, though the French guests didn’t seem to respect the 11pm noise curfew. It stayed noisy until around 1.30am or 2am. We were pleased to have a pitch near the facilities, but had trouble setting up because of its size and could only put up part of our tent. Meanwhile, we saw large pitches occupied by a three-man tent or a one-man pop-up. It also seemed that English guests were grouped together and French guests together, regardless of pitch size. The nearest toilet block had mixed-sex toilets, which made me uncomfortable, especially when my young daughter needed to go. I didn’t want her walking past the men’s urinals or using a block with men she didn’t know, so I used the single-sex block instead. French guests still used toilets and showers meant for the opposite sex, so perhaps they have a more liberal approach to it. The beach access isn’t direct. Even with a shortcut, you still have to walk through town to get there. That’s a fair few things to mention, but we did have a lovely stay.
