The new owners are an improvement on the previous ones. The restaurant staff could still be friendlier.

The restaurant dinner was fantastic. We’d booked a table for two, and they gave us a pleasant spot overlooking the grounds. The menu had plenty of choice. I had the carpaccio de boeuf (€19), a generous, mouthwatering portion, then aiguillettes de canard (€24), both superb. My wife chose wok de gambas (€24) and clafoutis (€11), and she was full of praise for both. The staff were pleasant and efficient, with the maître d’hôtel keeping things running smoothly. A great start to a long-awaited holiday. We’d booked at very short notice, just a couple of days ahead, and were glad to get a room with breakfast included. We’d stayed here once before, back in 2012, and remembered the hospitality and easy parking. The hotel and grounds looked a little tired this time, though perhaps just well used. Our ground-floor room was fine for a night. There weren’t many diners, but several tables had just one person, and they were preparing another area for a large gathering. Breakfast the next morning was a real letdown after dinner. We got there around 7:45, hoping to fuel up for the journey, but there was only one croissant left. I took it, and it was badly undercooked, tough and elastic, and likely to give me indigestion all day. My wife tried a pain au chocolat, of which there were plenty, but hers was much the same. We told the woman looking after the tables, and she smiled pleasantly and said she’d speak to the boulangerie. No alternatives were offered, so I had yoghurt. The walls are so thin that the next morning we felt like we were in the same room as a man, probably 30 or older, getting ready for his day. Back in our room, the receptionist asked how breakfast was. My wife politely explained what had happened and that it wasn’t what we expected from a French breakfast. The receptionist seemed to head off to speak to the kitchen, but we heard nothing more. Would we stay again? Very probably, but we wouldn’t risk having their breakfast or pay for it.

The food was exceptional, the atmosphere relaxed and the service very good. We didn’t take any photos, but I’d highly recommend it. This was our second visit to the restaurant, and it was just as wonderful as the first.

We happened to end up here and were glad we did. The bedroom was large, with a queen bed and a great queen-size pull-out sofa bed. There were tea and coffee facilities and an excellent bathroom. Dinner was wonderful, proper gourmet-level food. Breakfast was made even better by the hot chocolate machine.

It poured with rain the day we went, so we couldn’t sit outside, but we’re looking forward to coming back in spring to do that. We went as a couple for a special occasion, and it was a perfect choice. The setting is lovely, there’s a good range of menus, and the service was knowledgeable and sensational. A great experience from start to finish. We can’t wait to return, thank you!
