Manoir De La Rivière

Maureen made us feel welcome even while we were arranging the booking, and that personal warmth carried through our stay. The rooms are unusual in a fun way, comfortable, and always interesting. We still remember the tuna steak, along with the tasty, well-cooked food and its original but unfussy presentation. With the atmosphere, relaxed feel, and service all adding to the experience, Le Manoir has become our favourite hotel in France. We just haven’t found the time to come back yet, though we will.

Iain and Maureen have welcomed us warmly every June for the past eight years, and we’ve come to think of them as good friends. The bedrooms are all individually designed, with some having four-poster beds, and the accommodation is five-star. We love relaxing on the big, squashy sofas in the lounge and bar. Iain’s cooking, made with locally sourced produce, is wonderful. The setting works well for trips to the D Day Beaches or for taking it easy in the swimming pool or the well-kept gardens. We can’t recommend the Manoir highly enough, and a visit is something you won’t forget. You’ll want to return.

There are antiques everywhere at Manoir de la Rivière, so it’s well worth taking a look around. We arrived late after getting lost, but they still served us food even though we’d missed the dining times, and it was amazing. Our room was beautiful, with vintage clothes in display cabinets and a lovely bed. When we woke up, there was a great view over the courtyard. Breakfast was fantastic too, with fresh pastries, local cheeses, yoghurt, and cereal. We didn’t get to try the spa, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was as outstanding as the rest of the hotel. Our short stay left a lot of good memories. I’d happily recommend it and would love to come back.

A real hidden treasure, this beautiful antique mansion makes a great base for exploring the best of Normandy. The owners are such lovely hosts, and the stay feels like an experience that lasts a lifetime.
