Hotel Oceania Saint Malo

We had more than $1500 worth of electronics damaged after the AC in our room leaked liters of water onto the floor. The rooms are tiny, so our bags were beside the unit, and my "laptop" bag with all my electronics was right next to it. Everything in it got wet. We filmed the leak and told the hotel employees. They came up, took their own video and pictures, and after some back and forth gave us a note with the name and address of their insurance company so we could file a claim. We don't speak French, so we couldn't tell what the note said. Back in the US, when we tried contacting that "insurance company", we found all the information was bogus. We've emailed and messaged the hotel many times without getting a single reply. The general manager also refused to answer his phone while we were trying to sort this out at the hotel. I wouldn't stay here again. You can also find hotels with larger rooms that are closer to St. Malo downtown.

Breakfast was good, and it was included in our room through Brittany ferries. The pool area was relaxing, and our room was ready early so we could check in ahead of time. I'd stay here again if I took another trip to France via the saint malo ferry. The gym is advertised, but it's really just a token gym with very limited equipment, and not worth bothering with.

We enjoyed the warm pool, jacuzzi, and steam room, and breakfast had a great choice and was delicious, though a bit expensive. The staff were welcoming and helpful during our lovely weekend, and the location was perfect for reaching the old town and port. Our room was spacious and comfortable, as were the bed and bathroom, with lots of nice touches. We had a sea view, but the room never got sun, and the balcony was chilly and noisy from traffic on the cobbled street below. We were on the first floor. I would have preferred ceramic mugs to the small cardboard cups, which we had to keep washing out to reuse. There were only two teabags, but staff gave us more when we asked. An extra bin by the coffee maker would have been useful.

The nightclub beside the hotel kept the room vibrating with booming bass until after 1 am, so we had a bad night. We stayed because we wanted time in St Malo. Management were sorry, but had a tough attitude. Be careful when booking.
