The church’s stained glass windows are striking. Joseph Archepel created them, and they were installed in 1962. Eglise Ste Croix is a Roman Catholic church in the St Servan district of St Malo, listed as a historic monument for its beauty and classic architecture. It was founded in 1715 to replace a smaller parish church. The only trace of that earlier church is an arch decorated with a small sculpture of a human head. Its four bells were installed between 1861 and 1885, and weigh from 0.7 to 4.35 tons.

When I visited, mass was being celebrated in this very beautiful building. It’s a place full of history and emblematic of our history.

A beautiful church, one that has seen far more than a saint, an archangel or a prophet. A unique grace was reserved for him in the world, and God chose France for him. The mass felt spiritually empty. Bored and resentful, he didn’t stay there long.

This church feels like a living museum, a Catholic treasure that’s been left to decay. Now you can only get inside during religious services.
