Résidence Le Palais des Gouverneurs Pierre & Vacances

Our basic studio apartment did what we needed. It’s very close to the harbour for meals out, though eating there can be pricey, and for gentle strolls. The pool is a bit small, but that didn’t bother us since we weren’t here for the pool. There’s no bar on site.

We got a warm, friendly welcome at reception and from all the staff we met. The historic building is beautiful and very well located. Our apartment was spacious, airy, clean, and well equipped. There’s secure parking, and pets are welcome.

The reception staff were attentive and helpful. The place felt like a good holiday if you’re not too picky, and I think the current 3.8 rating fits the experience. I’m not convinced by the “premium” label, which is probably down to the location. They charge 35 euros for a lost key card, saying the lock has to be changed, which struck me as strange, so be careful. The gym and pool were poor by my standards, and cleanliness was fair.

The pool was a nice bonus, and the place worked well for a holiday on Île de Ré. Our room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen had enough utensils and other basics to manage.
