Hotel des Côtes de Meuse

We slept well and found the hotel clean enough. It looks plain from outside, but inside it's modern and well equipped. There were seven of us eating there, and though it was busy, the owner served everyone on her own with a smile and a really warm welcome. The food was worthy of a great chef, made with fresh regional ingredients, and we got to try the chef's suggestions. It's very family-friendly, especially for kids. I'd recommend it to anyone passing through.

We used to stop here for lunch when passing through, but on July 16, 2021, we found it under new ownership. The menu had changed completely, with no daily specials or regional dishes. It was very basic, with no appetizers or cheese. The hamburger with honey was odd, and the poutines weren't available. The 150g rib-eye steaks cost 18 or 19 euros, served with frozen fries or corn on the cob in an Indigenous sauce. There was maple syrup in a lot of things. Hygiene measures were nonexistent. When we left, the old large sign by the curb was still advertising daily specials and regional specialties. Unbelievable. Avoid this place unless you like Canadian food. If I could have, I'd have given it zero stars.

The welcome was the one good part when we came to eat with family and found the place under new ownership. The decor felt dark, there was no daily menu, and by then I already regretted coming. The menu had little choice and the prices were excessive. The poutine was very bland. Really disappointed, I miss the previous owners. Avoid.

Breakfast was fine, but the rest of our Smartbox "Delicious Getaway" for two fell far short. The offer included a gourmet meal, one night's stay, and breakfast, yet we got a set menu rather than a gourmet meal, and not even the best items from the menu. The room smelled musty, the bed was really too low, and its only window was a tiny skylight two meters up. I've enjoyed a "Delicious Getaway" before and it was worth at least five stars. This time, I'd give the meal two stars and the room zero.
