La Ferriere

Breakfast was generous, varied, and excellent, and the price for the stay was remarkably good. We were welcomed warmly at this place in the middle of a charming village. Our room was clean and thoughtfully arranged, and the guest living area was bright and very well equipped. The hosts were attentive while still giving us space. I'll keep fond memories of my time in La Ferrière.

The owners also run a handy grocery shop selling local products, and there are hikes and museums to visit in nearby villages. The guesthouse is well situated in the heart of the Monts du Forez. We spent four very pleasant days there; everything was very clean, and the owners were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it.

We came for a few days away and were happy with our stay. The area has plenty to do, from cycling and hiking to swimming. The rooms were lovely and very clean, and the young woman who took care of them was wonderfully attentive. There's also a grocery store on site, handy for picking up anything at the last minute. Everything was perfect, and I highly recommend it.

We were very disappointed. Our late-night arrival was difficult, and someone had to keep pressing a switch so my elderly parents could go up the stairs to the bedrooms. A cat had been shut inside our accommodation, and there was a large pile of poop by the breakfast table. The breakfast hadn't been laid out; the bread and pastries were from the day before, and a note said not to take more than one pastry per person. There was no milk or fruit juice. Every room had cobwebs and dust. The very positive reviews I saw on all the sites made me expect a much better stay. The owner's aggressive phone call afterward left us speechless. She didn't take the written comments we'd left into account. I said that, professionally, she should pay attention to her customers too, but she wouldn't listen and was too aggressive for me to explain our dissatisfaction, so I had to hang up. It's a shame, because the owner who greeted us when we arrived seemed quite friendly. We agreed to pay cash for all four rooms, without being able to see them because they hadn't been cleaned. Honestly, move on. This is a gîte, not a B&B. The housekeeper should be changed.
