B&B HOTEL Saint-Nazaire Pornichet

After travelling all day, we arrived to mediocre service at reception. Calling this a 3-star place feels like a stretch compared with other establishments. Spanish hotels offer much better quality and more space at the same rating. The beds were warm, but the gap between them and the wall was disappointingly narrow, and the bathroom was small too. At least the shower head should stay at the right height. This was my first experience at a B&B hotel and will probably be my last.

There’s no air conditioning, but the room was clean, if a little small, and the shower was good. The staff were friendly. Breakfast was a different story: the first tray was outright dirty, just like at the new Annecy B&B, and there was no paper lining. With nothing to put bread or buns on, I used a bunch of napkins. There’s no WiFi in the breakfast area.

We really enjoyed staying here. It’s a bit out of town, like an F1, but for about £5 more you get an ensuite. Parking was free, and it’s a short drive from the Saint Naizaire U-boat base. There’s a fabulous boulangerie beside the hotel, and the woman at the excellent pizza place basically next door speaks great English too. Pizza Mia is highly recommended! The staff spoke perfect English, which helped since my French is ropey, to say the least. If you’re travelling around Europe rather than spending a whole week in one holiday spot, we recommend this outfit. It’s now top of our list. On this 2024 trip, we paid a lot more elsewhere and got a lot less. 👍

The hotel was spotlessly clean, with modern, good-quality fixtures and fittings, and we were very impressed by the friendly, welcoming staff. The key card worked great. One small annoyance: when my husband went outside for a cigarette, the room lights switched off automatically, but I had a torch on my phone. We usually sleep with two pillows each, and I’m sure reception could have provided extras, but we were too tired to ask and it wasn’t a big deal. The value for money was impressive, especially since we booked through booking.com. Check-out by noon suited us perfectly. We’d definitely stay again and look for the chain if we need a hotel anywhere in France.
