Hotel Le Recif

We stayed six nights over Christmas and New Year at Le Recif Hotel, and the value for money was the biggest problem. The week cost a lot, and what we got didn't feel worth it, especially compared with other options. Internet only worked for a few minutes a day. Since Reunion Island is part of the EU, we could use our home service, but I imagine this could be a problem for visitors from outside the EU. We had a Family Suite with two connecting rooms, kept nice and clean. Breakfast was good, and the staff were excellent and very friendly and attentive. Breakfast service was great too. The hotel serves different types of food at certain times, with little flexibility to get something small in between. I considered raising the rating to three stars because of the staff, but in the end I decided against it.

We enjoyed ourselves, but didn't feel the price was justified. The hotel is well placed near the beach, with fun activities and quiet spots to relax. Staff were welcoming and kind, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet disappointed us: it was limited and the same as the day before. We would've liked fresh fruit such as papaya, mango and pineapple.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the grounds are well kept, and dinner buffet was excellent. Breakfast, though, had no variety and stayed the same the whole time. There weren't even snacks available at the bar when you wanted something while swimming or having a drink, which felt very odd. We stayed 5-7 to 11 -7 2023. The rooms were dated and not very clean. Sheets were changed only twice, coffee cups were rinsed in the bathroom basin, there was no shower ventilation, and the tiny fridge had a broken shelf. We got no information at all about tours at the hotel. The rooms were overpriced. I'd suggest upgrading the fridges, adding ceiling fans, and fitting security doors so sea breezes can come through without snakes getting into the room. We made the stay work, but it was dated and definitely overpriced.

I stayed here a long time ago and remember being really impressed. We had no bad experiences: the rooms, food, room service and location were all excellent. The hotel had extra facilities at the time and arranged diving for us. Whatever we asked for was provided right away. I don't know if it's still as good, but I imagine the location and terrace view are unchanged. Definitely visit the Safari adventures for a walk with the lions!
