ibis Avranches Baie du Mont Saint Michel

After I arrived at 23.30, the front door was locked even though I'd checked in that afternoon. You had to ring and wait to be let in. My room was tiny, with an old-style Ibis layout and a plastic bathroom, and there was no way to make tea or coffee in it. I asked at reception about a shared place to make tea. They told me to use the breakfast machine and pay. I said no, because in my experience Ibis hotels have tea in the room or a shared kettle at reception, along with a water filling station. The receptionist then said it would be charged to my room. When I refused to sign, she threatened to block access to my room until I paid for the cup of tea I'd made myself. The attitude was aggressive and shocking. I've never had that happen at a hotel. I told her I'm a gold member and had never experienced this at any Ibis anywhere in the world. She didn't care, said management had instructed her to charge guests for everything, and tried to take my free drink voucher. I'd paid 100 euros for a tiny room in the middle of nowhere, right by a noisy main highway. As she tried to cancel my room key, I suggested I'd sleep in my car.

The hotel is in a great spot, but the junction is awkward to find. This was our second visit, and we got it wrong both times.

The location was easy to access, quiet, and peaceful, with plenty of parking. It's great value for a short stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and although the room was a little small, it was adequate, fresh, and very clean. The beds were especially comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless. Breakfast had a very good range of hot and cold food, and the coffee was great.

The room was clean, though quite small for three people. Breakfast was good enough, and when something ran out, guests could tell reception nearby and it got replenished. There is free parking and a large shopping mall close by.
