That checkout left a bad impression. The man there wasn’t friendly and seemed mainly interested in getting our money, and we were charged too much tax. The extras felt like money grabbing, so I wouldn’t come back for that reason. The room itself was clean and tidy, with a lovely view of the sea and the surrounding area. There was a roomy balcony where we could relax in the sun, and the closet seemed to have plenty of space, though we only stayed one night and didn’t unpack. Breakfast was pleasant, with bread and croissants brought to us and coffee, fruit, preserves, and butter available from the buffet. But at €9.50 per person, it really wasn’t worth the price. The hotel is nice and clean, though I’m not sure I’d rate its overall quality as “Very Good”; it’s probably better than just “Good.”

The proprietor is a real gentleman and is always willing to help if you have a question or run into an issue. It’s also the most relaxed hotel around here by far. We’ve been coming for ten years without any problems. Agay is a pretty little town, and this is easily the best place to stay. You can park right outside, and the beach is only about 100 yards away. Rooms have air conditioning, a fridge, and a safe. For a little extra, you can get a balcony with a sea view.

I found the hotel’s hospitality badly lacking, and the experience cost me a lot of time, money, and stress. I had reserved and prepaid for a room, but when I arrived around 21:30, the front office was dark and locked. There was a lit open sign by the hotel name, but nobody answered after I knocked for 20 minutes. I couldn’t find a night bell or a message for me, despite having received confirmation. A guest I asked didn’t know how to reach the staff either. I’d arrived late because I missed a train connection. The taxi from the station cost €35, and there was no bus or train service into Agay from St. Raphael at night. I spent another ten minutes looking around for staff or management, then knocked at the office door again for ten minutes. My US cell phone had no connection, and I couldn’t find a phone anywhere. With no businesses open and no way to call a taxi, I had to walk the 13 kilometers back to the train station in St. Raphael, which took three hours in the middle of the night. I know I arrived later than planned, but I don’t think 21:30 is an unreasonable time. The hotel knew I’d booked and prepaid, yet left me without access to my room. Basic decency would have meant leaving a message or paying attention to a guest expected at a reasonable hour. I’m very disappointed and unhappy with the way I was treated.

We stayed for a week in August 2016 and found it really comfortable. The staff were lovely, and everything was very clean. A beautiful family beach is just across the road.

The staff were very friendly, and the rooms were clean and well looked after. Good value for the price.
