Camping Mas de Nicolas

The pool and the area around it are outstanding, and the jacuzzi and gym are great too, though I did wonder why the gym was there. The pitches are spacious and fairly level, so nothing a few chocks can’t handle. But after the campsites we’d just stayed at in Croatia, this one didn’t feel like 4-star standard. The sanitary facilities are old and need a bit of maintenance. We were there at the start of Oct and the bar, restaurant and shop were closed. The price was 4-star, but the standard wasn’t.

St Remy de Province is an easy walk from the site, though it’s very busy and parking there is nearly impossible. It has chic boutiques, cafés and bars, but prices are high. The site itself was immaculate, with very clean facilities and a helpful reception team who speak English. It was nearly full on 1st May, so booking is essential. Some pitches have kerbs that could make things tricky with caravan movers alone, and you may need to reverse the caravan in. Still, don’t let that put you off. I recommend the site.

The wifi never worked during our stay, and we were shocked at how they treated my 81-year-old dad, who had stayed here 15 times before and was a former customer. He’d wanted to bring us because he liked the campsite so much. Since he couldn’t book online, he had to pay more. Our first mobile home had no hot water. A staff member said her co-worker hadn’t known it shouldn’t be rented out, so we had to move to an older, dusty one. We didn’t want to move, but had no choice. That place smelled like a problem with the underground toilet. They tried to deal with it using a toxic spray, and we could smell it outside while eating. We asked for a lower price, but were told the compensation was that we had to wash the dishes in the other home. There had been no hot water for that either. When I looked through the window two days later, the dishes were still in the sink. You should have treated a former customer kindly. We’ll never come back. The soul has been ripped out of this campsite.

The grounds are lush and quiet, with big pitches where you can park right beside your tent. The pool area feels like a resort, with heated water, loads of deck chairs, and a spa and sauna just behind it. There are also some lovely hikes within walking distance. Such a beautiful campsite.
