Hotel Lou Cagnard

Marion made my birthday feel special, setting up balloons and wine in the room, and she was kind and hospitable throughout our stay. Hotel Lou Cagnard is a charming boutique hotel, beautifully maintained and very clean, with everything close by. The pool area is lovely and the whole place has a relaxing feel. We had a wonderful stay in St Tropez.

The room quality seems to vary a lot. Mine was a dirty, smelly cupboard behind reception, facing the street. Street noise was bad, and I could also hear guests at breakfast and staff working right nearby, including their WhatsApp messages through the thin walls. The room was unacceptably dirty. A friend in another room also asked for it to be cleaned again after checking in. I raised my disappointment immediately, but nothing was done to make things right. For that exorbitant price, the experience felt like a Holiday Inn.

At 21.30 on a Friday, I was left out on the street because the hotel had double booked. I’d booked, paid, and received confirmation through Booking.com well in advance, and had even been in touch with the hotel on WhatsApp before arriving. Neither the hotel nor Booking.com tried to find me somewhere else to stay. I had to call around on my own late at night. Absolutely disgusting.

The location is ideal, parking is ample, and the place is clean with friendly staff. I’d call it a solid 4 star hotel, but WiFi is listed as an amenity and it was a real problem: there was no usable connection in some parts of the property. As someone who owns and runs two businesses, I needed to email a couple of files too large to send by phone while on vacation. I also couldn’t reliably find anyone to answer simple questions. Staff were unavailable for long stretches, and half a dozen calls about WiFi, extra water, and coffee went unanswered. Messages through WhatsApp and the website got no reply either.
