Le Mas des Oules

We were just as happy spending a lazy day by the pool as heading out to explore Pont du Gard, Avignon, and the surrounding area. Uzès makes a peaceful countryside base, and the estate and its lovely pool gave our family plenty of room to relax and have fun. The Genêt Loft was spacious, beautifully furnished, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Christophe was always available and very helpful, with great local suggestions. A big thank you to Christine and Christophe for a rejuvenating two weeks in such a magical setting.

We came for a wedding in late May, and the next day the cold pool and southern sunshine were just what we needed. The reception flowed through the courtyard’s double doors to the dance floor, with pastis flowing too. Earlier, we’d had dinner on white linen under string lights, after the ceremony in the garden with vows beneath the towering forest. Getting there was part of the experience. The roads pass between trees planted to shade Napoleon’s marching troops, with golden fields and lavender along the way. Arriving felt like finding a fountain of Provençal life. The place was a dream, though more Lawrence-Durrell and Avignon-Quintet than Emily-in-Paris or A-Good-Year, as you’ll be glad to hear. Christophe and Christine were relaxed, attentive hosts. Everything felt tasteful and in good spirits. Merci!

The grounds are lovely, and it’s worth taking time to look around at the local pottery, artists, biking, kayaking, fresh produce, and restaurants. We were especially interested in places to eat, and found some great suggestions among the hosts’ thoughtful, impartial recommendations. They shared these right away and made them available on a special Le Mas des Oules website. The French farmhouses are colorful, clean, and beautifully designed. It’s a quiet, peaceful place, with many historical sites just a short drive away.

With our toddler, we spent five days here in June and really enjoyed the relaxed country feel. The room was thoughtfully designed, the bedding was very comfortable, and the place has a quaint charm. There was plenty for little ones to explore, from the pool, pond, chickens, and cats to the garden space. The hosts were lovely and happy to answer questions, and we enjoyed a little chat with them each day. It’s a handy spot for day trips. We particularly liked St Quentin, close by, with a nice range of shops and places to eat, and an easygoing feel for families. I’d recommend it for an authentic, comfortable holiday with time to slow down and enjoy nature.
