Domaine du Château de Monrecour – Hôtel et Restaurant

The restaurant was excellent, though pricey, as you'd expect for a fancy place. They left bottled water, coffee, and tea for us to enjoy in the morning. We were a family of four in the spacious family suite and felt like kings. It's a great chateau experience in the middle of the Dordogne valley, and good value for something so unique and memorable. There are adjoining rooms in nearby buildings, so double-check that you're staying in the chateau if that matters to you. We didn't get to use the pool, but it would be nice in summer. We'd recommend it and would come back.

This is our favorite restaurant, and we were impressed to hear they'd changed the chef. I booked the Valentine's meal, and the food was delicious. The setting is as amazing as ever, and the staff and service were impeccable. Thanks, and see you again soon.

What a rip-off. We paid 110 euro per night for a room that felt like a maid's room, with an open shower area. We asked for a toothbrush, toothpaste, and slippers, but the receptionist said none could be provided. If you come outside summer and can't really use the outdoor poor, I wouldn't stay here. There are better and cheaper options in Sarlat or adjacent counties. Breakfast was 17 euros per person, mostly cold plates, with no a la carte options or freshly cooked eggs. We ended up going to Sarlat for much better breakfast. The receptionist wasn't willing to help. It felt like the hotel just wanted to make money. I'm a Marriott titanium member, and we drove here from San-Sebastian. I'd also stayed in a similarly priced villa in San Sebastián and had a far better experience, with the room size, hospitality, amenities, and breakfast. That made the value for money here especially disappointing. You can say how good the hotel is or how great the breakfast is, but I'm just describing the mismatch with my expectations. We arrived at about 8pm, when it was pretty dark. There was just one girl at the front desk, and she seemed rushed and impatient. We didn't ask to change rooms because it was the room we'd booked. When staff said the basic items weren't available, we didn't think to ask for an upgrade either. Who would expect a free upgrade from a hotel that couldn't provide things Marriott, Hyatt, or Hilton can? I'm even more shocked by the hotel's reply. When the front desk showed us the room, the first things we asked about were toothbrush, toothpaste, and slippers, and YOUR STAFF told us you didn't provide any of them. So you can provide these, but turned down my request on site. That's a strange way to run a hotel, and hardly professional.
