Baobab Guadeloupe

Thank you to Paul.P for the welcome! This was our third stay at this Baobab Gite, and this time we came with family. The sea view from the simple, clean cottage is magnificent, and it even has an outdoor kitchen!!! The large pool, surrounding space, kitchen area, and deckchairs were all lovely.

We arrived at 9:30 PM after a very long day, with a reservation we had booked and paid for three months earlier. The owner seemed drunk, was smoking a joint, and clearly hadn't expected us. He said there were no sheets or towels, and the apartment was filthy, like a pigsty. Then he got aggressive and said we could either sleep as if we were camping or leave. He threatened us and told us to go, so we ended up out on the street with a child. Absolutely avoid this disgrace of a place.

The cottage and pool have a magnificent view, and the setting is peaceful while still close to amenities. But the welcome was poor, nobody was there when we arrived, and Paul showed no sense of hospitality. Inside, the kitchen was short on utensils and had a cabinet missing a door; the outlets didn't work, and there were no basics like toilet paper, dish soap, or tea towels. The place wasn't clean, the doors were hard to close, and the pool bar area couldn't be used. The photos seemed old and the property could use a refresh. Paul only came to see us when it suited his interests.

Grandpa was so welcoming and flexible, and gave us lots of useful ideas for seeing the island. We had a wonderful two weeks at Baobab, with ocean and little-island views from the cottage each morning. The shared spaces were nice, and we were able to use the pool whenever we wanted. There's also a dojo next door with martial arts classes, a nice extra for anyone more athletic. We'd happily come back 😊
