Au Jardin de Lucie

We loved being in Alsace, and this cottage is in a great spot for the Christmas markets and the surrounding area. Its two separate gîtes are linked by a little hallway, which suited our two families. The first one has a big table for eight, so group meals were easier. The beds were comfortable and the blankets warm, which helped with the other issues. Winter was especially rough in Cottage #2. You enter through an unheated space, then climb stairs to an unheated landing. One door goes to the apartment, with its living area and two bedrooms, and the other to the bathroom, where the radiator was broken and a fan heater was the suggested fix. It was constantly and uncomfortably cold, particularly with children. Cleanliness was poor in both gîtes. We found dirt in the toilets and sinks, crumbs, and used coffee capsules. Some dishes, chairs, and the coffee table were damaged, the vacuum cleaner was dirty, and the hot water was unreliable because both gîtes shared one water heater. The owner played down our feedback, referring to her daughter’s young age as the person responsible for cleaning and to the house being “old.” She ended the discussion without dealing with the faults or offering a solution. It’s a shame, since the place is well located and laid out, but it could deteriorate quickly without more attention.

We absolutely loved our stay and would happily come back. The owners were so kind and attentive, and shared all kinds of useful information. The place was spotless, and the location worked perfectly for us.

The cottage has a welcoming feel and plenty of comfort for one or two families, with a real Alsatian atmosphere 💫. The owners are lovely, too. It’s close to Colmar, the vineyards, the mountains, and Germany. We highly recommend it!

The owner is warm and easy to talk to, and the house has good equipment. It’s also well placed for getting to Alsace’s tourist spots. The one small inconvenience is that you need to pass through the second bedroom to reach the bathroom and toilet.
