This is a simple, basic two-star hotel, but the location is the main draw. It sits right by the beach at the far end of town, a few minutes' walk from the center. There is plenty of free street parking nearby, and a paid lot close by for €6. Reception is handled by one very pleasant man, who also serves breakfast. At check-in you get a white plastic card for the front door security code after 7 pm, plus an old-fashioned key for the room and another for the safe, which may or may not work. My room was clean, bright, basic but comfortable, with a comfortable bed, firmness about 4 out of 5. It had an electric blind instead of curtains, which let fresh air in at night while keeping mosquitoes and flies out. There is air conditioning, though I prefer not to use it. Breakfast is served from 8 to 10 and is simple: an egg, three kinds of bread and condiments, coffee and fruit juice machines, plus pain au chocolat, crêpes, croissants, cereal, yogurt, ham, and cheese.

The beach is just across a small road, with bars and restaurants nearby and the famous church not far away. It was good value for a beachfront hotel in this charming town. We had a cracking two-day visit, starting with a friendly, jovial welcome. The room was tidy and very clean, with a lovely little terrace for sitting outside. Air conditioning was a nice extra, and the bed was comfortable. The toilet and shower room were clean and perfectly serviceable. We'll definitely come back.

We'd booked a room for a romantic night away, paying over €100 through booking.com. The photos made the rooms look decent, but what we were given was at the far end of the corridor, away from the other rooms, with no number like the others. It just said Camargue on the door, and the cleaning lady had to show us where it was. It felt strange, but we went in. The room looked like a supply closet converted to fit in extra guests. A bed was wedged between the walls, with a dusty air conditioner plugged in right beside it, which felt like a safety hazard. The walls were dirty. The toilet was in what seemed like a tiny, airless closet, with water that wouldn't go away even when flushed. There wasn't enough room to close the door if I'd sat on it. It was unhygienic and disgusting. We complained at reception. The woman there repeatedly acknowledged and apologized that our room was different from the regular ones, and said all the normal rooms were booked. Even so, she didn't offer any money back. We said we were leaving. She kept telling me the booking was non-refundable, but that would only apply if this had been an actual hotel room. We had to find another hotel at the last minute, which cost over €200 for the night. Booking.com staff intervened and asked the hotel to refund us because we deserved it, but they still refused. Don't trust these people. They shamelessly stole our money, trying to pass off what seemed like a dirty supply room put together at the last minute as a hotel room. Greed knows no bounds.

Our top-floor panorama room had a large balcony looking over the beach and sea. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and breakfast was good value. There are several bars and restaurants just a few minutes' walk away. The only drawback was a music festival in the nearby bullring that went on until 2 am, something outside the hotel's control. The double glazing and blind cut out most of the sound. We'll return.

The location is excellent and the hotel itself is very nice, but the reception staff were awful and rude. We didn't feel welcome, as they kept reminding us about the rules. My sister-in-law came to visit, and they wouldn't let her use the toilet before we went out for the evening. Breakfast was mediocre. We won't stay again.
