We stayed for two nights at the Logis hotel in Salers, tucked into a corner of the medieval village with fantastic countryside views. The staff were friendly, and the hotel was well maintained. Breakfast had plenty to choose from: pastries, cereal, local meat, and cheese. There’s parking out front and more farther along the esplanade. Driving into the village can be tricky, with steep roads, tight turns, stone archways, and two-way traffic. A lovely place for a couple of days, and spa treatments are available at the hotel too.

Les Ramparts was a real pleasure after a wonderful lady booked me there when my original reservation at le Belfroi turned out to be awful. The hotel was quiet, with lovely views across the hills and valleys. Inside, it was great and spotlessly clean, the rooms were soundproof, and all the meals were excellent. Two lovely women looked after me at mealtimes. I had to leave a day early, so I missed the chance to thank all the wonderful staff properly. Les Ramparts is what other hotels should aspire to.

The room was beautifully done to a standard close to a five-star hotel. It had two balconies, each looking out on a different side of the hotel, and the internet was free and very fast.
