The main reason we only ate there once was the dinner. The food was bland, and after our main course we waited 30 minutes for the dessert included in our menu. I eventually left without it, while my wife waited another 15 minutes before anyone came by. Incredible service, in the worst way. We’d booked hoping to relax and have good meals overlooking the hills. The hotel and its other building are attractive, and our room was fine, though it could use fresh paint. There’s no bar fridge, which is inconvenient if you want to chill your own wine. The website calls the pool natural. It’s fed by a stream running through an artificial marsh, leaving algae on the walls and bottom and organic matter floating on top. I wasn’t familiar with the idea, and not knowing what was in the water or whether its quality was checked made me uneasy. There’s no shower to rinse off afterward, and only six loungers for more than 20 rooms, so I’m not sure how that’s meant to meet demand. Also, the breakfast room staff weren’t wearing masks. The place has plenty of potential, but management and supervision seem lacking.

Fine for a night. The room had a lovely view, there was free parking, and the pool was peaceful with a nice outlook. There weren’t enough pool chairs, and some guests ended up lying on the ground. Our room also had lots of insects because there were no window screens. Breakfast didn’t look like the photos and wasn’t worth 12€. Staff at reception, in the breakfast room, and cleaning rooms weren’t wearing masks. The restaurant was closed Sunday, and the hotel had no dinner suggestions planned for guests.

We’ll be back for the food and the amazing view. The restaurant is very nice under its new management, and the 32 Euro evening menu from Monday to Thursday also had chef’s choices.

The hotel rooms let the place down: they’re old, impractical, and there’s no bar or lounge. The spa and restaurant, though, are first rate, and everything has been fabulously restored.

The spa felt cold and lacked the cozy, intimate atmosphere I’d hoped for. It could use more softness and comfort to help guests relax, and the decor and services could feel warmer and more welcoming. The castle itself is beautiful and gives the setting real charm and prestige. It’s a lovely place with potential, but my rating is 2/5.
