Résidence Club MMV Samoens Village

The location is great, the apartment was comfortable enough, and the staff were amazing. But the room was miserable in mid June: it got above 80 degrees, with no AC or fans. Neighbors talked loudly and smoked on nearby balconies until nearly midnight, even on weekdays, so opening the windows was difficult. It was noisy from early morning until well after sunset. The posted list of chores guests have to do was bizarre and pretty ridiculous, especially given how expensive it was.

We spent ten days at MMV Samoëns at the end of June, and there was plenty to do both around the residence and in town. The residence is quiet but close enough to walk into town, and the area behind it has a stunning view and great hiking paths. Facilities include cooking facilities, a swimming pool, sauna, spa room, jacuzzi and steam room, plus activities during the week. We found the accommodation very clean and had no issues. The reception team were extremely helpful, especially Willyse, who was kind, professional and quick to sort out any questions or concerns. It’s probably one of the best hotels in Samoëns, and I’d recommend it to anyone staying there.

For the price, it’s a decent place, with the gondola nearby and the city about a walkable kilometer away. But several things concerned me. Staff were somewhat friendly, though they seemed unprepared and a bit lost, with no clear leadership. When Google Chrome wasn’t working, I was told it would be fixed soon, then learned that meant by the end of the season. I’d been told my booking allowed checkout at 12, but the woman at the counter said 10, or offered 11 as a favor. The pool was supposed to be heated to 28C, but felt closer to 20, and the answers when I asked about it were always strange. The pool maintenance guy took the cover off at 08:30, though the first guests weren’t allowed in until 10:00. By 10:15, the water was already very cold. There were lots of other small issues I haven’t listed. MMV should look into the poor communication and lack of leadership, as they’re damaging its reputation.

We enjoyed our stay. Everything seemed fairly new and was in very good condition. There’s parking available, and the ski lift is a ten minute walk away.
