Hotel Du Rempart

Lunch and dinner were both excellent and fairly priced, and the service was friendly throughout. Take a look at the bar too, it has a moving chain of glasses. We gave up the vineyard view for a room at the back so we could have working air-conditioning. A shame, though it had to be done. The hotel seems to be midway through a major modernisation, so hopefully it's all finished by the time we return. A very nice hotel.

It has a great atmosphere, and we'd definitely come back. The hotel is a little old and rickety, which we loved. Breakfast was great, the welcome very friendly, and the price good value. Wine shops and restaurants in central Sancerre are only a few minutes away on foot.

We ate outside, and even with lots of diners the service was quick, efficient and friendly. The portions were very large. Our salads were good but nothing special, the white wine was nice, and the red less so.

We should've read the reviews more carefully before booking. At the end of September there was plenty of parking close by, and the location was good. The hotel felt very tired, our room was freezing, and the WiFi didn't work. The shower was a bathtub with no plug and a handheld nozzle. The man at the desk didn't ask if we wanted breakfast, so we skipped it and headed out to find something and warm up. We ate at a little café in town instead of the restaurant, and they were super friendly, so I can't comment on the restaurant.
