Le Relais de Sarlande

We were so uncomfortable that we cut our booking from two nights to one. Getting there was a struggle too: the place is way out in the French countryside, and after a 10-hour journey we finally arrived at midnight. Around 11 pm, the owner messaged to say they were going to bed because it was late and they were tired, so the keys had been left in the room. It was dark when we arrived and we had no idea where to go. There’s very little nearby. The closest place to eat or get a coffee is 5 km away, and the nearest petrol station is 10 km away. The hotel feels incredibly neglected. The reception had kids’ toys, dirty laundry, children’s drawings, and even an iron on the floor. It looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in years. The restaurant was dirty too, with tables and plates from the night before still uncleared. Our room was clean, but the sheets and towels smelled as though they’d sat wet in the washing machine for two days, and the towels were stained. The shower flooded, and the tiny wardrobe was falling apart. There weren’t even any hangers. Breakfast cost €7 and was just a croissant, bread, jam, orange juice, and maybe coffee. The whole place felt like someone was hoarding things.
