Campanile Saumur

I didn't expect much from the motel-like exterior, which looks a little dated, but the rooms seem updated. The beds were good, and the modern bathroom had a walk-in shower with both a rain head and a hand shower. The staff were very friendly, and the restaurant's menu was limited, though the food was good and inexpensive. I left pleasantly surprised.

The location worked really well for our trip to Spain, and our room was clean.

Cars can park right outside the room, so when a neighbor starts up in the morning, you hear it, feel it, and even taste the fumes. The walls are very thin too, and conversations from next door carry through. Our room was small and had no air conditioning. Outside, the hotel looks neglected and shabby. Maintenance began at 7, with drilling and tapping to wake us. I can't recommend it. Campanile needs to sort this place out and spend some money on it.

For the price, this was a real find. The staff were welcoming and even helped turn my very basic French into a conversation we could manage. Our room was clean and tidy, the beds were comfortable, and breakfast was generous. Wi-Fi was a bit unreliable, and there isn't a pool or gym, but as an inexpensive B&B it was just right. I booked it simply because I needed a cheap overnight stay in Saumer.
