Le Cardinal - Belle-Ile-en-Mer

The shellfish buffet is fantastic, and the pool and spa sit in a superb spot above the bay. The staff are excellent too. We flew into Bangor airfield and got a free pickup and drop-off. One of the best 3star hotels we've stayed in. We'll be back.

BEWARE!!! I was charged 130 euros too much!! There's a French expression about being taken for an American. I am American, but I've lived here for 40 years. I didn't catch the problem at checkout until I spoke with my French friends, who had paid about 100 euros less. So I asked for a copy of my bill. First, they overcharged me for the diner Sarah Bernhardt, where I was supposed to get a discount as part of the costumed dancer. Then they charged me for a second SB dinner on Sunday night, even though the restaurant was closed!! There was also a buffet charge for food I didn't eat. Nobody even apologized or offered me a free coffee. English, American, or other Anglophone guests, be careful.

September 2018, four people, our fourth visit. Great location, lovely pool, good food and staff. Don't miss the seafood buffet. We paid 125 per night plus 32 each for dinner, and the rooms were decent. Early June 2019, we came back for visit number five, again four people. This time we got an appallingly bad, tiny room overlooking the car park and were charged 170 euros, plus 66 euros for dinner for two. Never again! We complained and were told it was a room with a view!! Lots of rooms were empty, too. Some of the pool terrace seats were worn out!

The hotel looks out over the sea, with a gorgeous view, and the old harbour photos here were taken there. Newly renovated rooms are available at a reasonable rate, with an extra charge for our dogs. Breakfast costs €14 per person. It's an easy walk to the village and old harbour, and well-reviewed places like Petit Table, La Cale and Hotel du Phare are about 10 minutes away on foot.
