La Mère Biquette

The room and pool were both in poor shape. We had to climb three flights of stairs to reach our room, which was dated, noisy, and badly maintained. There were flies, mosquitoes, and spiderwebs, and the old bed sagged in the middle and felt unstable. In the bathroom, the only way to shower was standing in the bath and holding the shower head. The pool water looked dirty, with moss, loose tiles, and broken stones around it. Pool towels cost €4 each, a charge nobody had told us about. Getting there was a struggle too. The road was long, narrow, and poorly kept, and once there we felt more or less stuck. Going out for dinner at night didn't seem realistic along that long, dark road. We'd told them before booking that I was pregnant and that we were coming to celebrate something special, but that seemed to count for nothing. There was no one at reception when we arrived, and the staff member there smelled strongly of smoke. We were asked to order dinner right away. As a pregnant vegetarian, I had very few choices and ended up with the goat stew, the only option available. It was a big bowl of rice with just a few little pieces of goat, mostly fat, and it was a letdown. Even though we'd ordered as soon as we arrived, dinner took an hour to come. We asked for a nice table for our celebration and got seated against a wall instead. In the morning we had two small coffees and were charged extra without anyone making the cost clear. When we complained, the reply was that it must be the pregnancy hormones. No apology or anything. We were really disappointed with the stay. The place feels dated, impersonal, and poorly run, and we didn't feel listened to or valued. What was meant to be a special celebration turned out to be a disappointment, and we wouldn't go back. If you're pregnant, vegetarian, celebrating something, or have trouble walking, I definitely wouldn't recommend it. Very, very disappointing.
