Martinique, the island of flowers in the Caribbean Sea, has so much to explore: beaches, hiking, waterfalls, diving, botanical gardens, sugar cane, pineapple plantations, local markets, rum distilleries, Creole architecture, shops, patisseries and cultural sights. Fort de France is the capital, but there isn’t a big city here. You’ll find colorful plants, fresh seafood, fish, spices, local fruit, goat, sausages, chicken curry, octopus stew, fried cod bites, fruit juices and rum. Restaurant prices can be a little spicy, but you’re living a dream while you’re here. Le Lamantine is a great hotel, around 45 euros, near the airport. It’s about 9 kilometers and 600 meters away, roughly 6 miles, and transportation to and from the airport is available. There’s parking, a fitness area with lessons, a view and balcony, room service, breakfast in the room, high-speed WiFi, a swimming pool, aerobics, a nearby personal trainer, squash close by, a concierge, a French newspaper, indoor and outdoor furniture, sun parasols and loungers, non-smoking areas, a gift shop, storage, tennis nearby, pool towels, air conditioning, bottled water in the room, a fridge and microwave. A good three-star place, what else do you need? They speak French, Spanish and English. It’s 28 degrees Celsius and the currency is the euro. Visa is accepted with your new ID, yes, listen carefully, your new ID. Hello, three months. It’s seven hours behind Athens. Air France flies between Athens and Martinique daily with one stop in Paris. A return ticket is 700 euros and the trip takes 16 hours and 10 minutes. Pack light clothes and slippers, and bring your swimsuit. The beaches, sand, sea, stars, sun and colorful fish are wonderful. You’ll remember me. And of course, there’s the other thing, you’ll go crazy. Yes, of course, you’ll go crazy. If you manage to come back, you’ll live the dream. Another fun park for two months, and it rains beyond. The breakfast came on a tray, with a glass of juice, a croissant, a long slice of bread, butter, a little jam, a small bowl of fruit salad and a pot of coffee to share. A reasonable amount for each person. We only stayed one night. The room was cozy, a decent size and well equipped with a fridge, storage, TV and a parking spot right in front. We received the gate and key box codes in advance, so we could let ourselves in. The bathroom was clean and functional, though it had a slight unpleasant smell. Since it’s right in the city center with a road behind it, passing cars can be noisy, something to consider if you’re a light sleeper. It was a pleasant stay overall, and I recommend it.

We didn’t feel comfortable there at all. The owner was a bit too intrusive, and the cleaning wasn’t great. We even found a few cockroaches. For the quality of service, it’s expensive.
