What makes this place such a treasure is the quiet country life and the care the family puts into sharing it. You can feel that in the paintings, objects, food, and all the thoughtful little gestures. It takes you back to a simpler kind of hospitality. The food was excellent and the setting was stunning. We really enjoyed lunch at Hotel des Deux Rocs and would happily return.

We felt so welcome, and the food was fantastic. Every dish was incredible. Sitting outside by the refreshing fountain, with lovely views and shade from the sun, was a treat in this beautiful French village. I almost wanted to keep this gem to myself, but the team deserves all the stars. Highly recommended.

We left disappointed, especially after looking forward to coming back for so long. Last summer, after Jay Rayner wrote about the food in the Guardian, we absolutely loved our meal. This Sunday lunch felt very different, and the food didn’t suit us. The location is stunning, and the wait staff were friendly and extremely efficient, but the meal didn’t feel worth the money or our three-hour round trip. The restaurant suggested ordering three plates each to share, tapas or mezze style. We found that hard to manage when all eight dishes arrived together, so we rushed through them before they got cold, and some did. The dishes weren’t all set up for sharing. The pork ribs came as one large piece, and even with knives from the waitress they were very difficult to serve. There were no serving spoons, which was a pity since the sauces were very nice. Some of the cooking also lacked refinement: the cauliflower was undercooked and the squid overcooked. The bread and oil with the amuse-bouche, though, were excellent. It seems there’s been a change of chef.
