Salty Woods Lodge

We loved the house and its location for our week at the start of July. It’s a short walk into the little town, or an even quicker ride by bike. We went to the bakery every day and cycled around the lake. With family coming from Switzerland and the UK, everyone found something to enjoy, from walks and visits to Bayonne and Biarritz to surfing and paddling. Our hosts were helpful and quick to respond. We’d definitely recommend staying here.

The hosts were lovely and shared lots of useful ideas for restaurants and activities. They even booked a surfing class for us. Merci beaucoup! The house is new and stylish, and our room had a lovely private terrace. It was peaceful, a good base for relaxing and exploring. We rented bikes at Salty Woods Lodge and used the great routes nearby. Two beaches are within walking distance, as is a village where you can have dinner. Breakfast was generous and really good. We especially appreciated the vegetarian spread and the vegan option, which changed daily and was prepared with so much care and detail that we wanted to photograph it. It’s one of the few places in South West France where we found non-dairy milk for coffee and muesli.

We were there with a young family and grandparents, and there was plenty to do even for those of us not surfing. The beach and lake are both a lovely little walk away. The spacious home is beautifully decorated, and the people running it made us feel so welcome. One of those rare gems. We’re planning to come back next year!

The balance between having privacy in the room, on the terrace and in the garden, and sharing the communal spaces, really helped me unwind. The garden is beautifully decorated beneath the pine trees, and the room was lovely, with carefully chosen artwork. The pool is refreshing, and the salt water is a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious, and Kristof’s pancakes are already legendary! In summer 2021, I was Saltly Woods Lodge’s very first guest, number one. Lynn and Kristof welcomed me generously to their spacious villa. You can tell they paid attention to every detail of the architecture and materials. Chapeau! The B&B is in a lovely, quiet area, close to the beach and just a stone’s throw from Europe’s best surf spots. A bientôt!
