Château d'Alteville

I can't wait to return to this place! It was our last stop on a road trip through France, and my only regret is that we didn't spend more time in this beautiful little piece of heaven. The owners were among the most welcoming hosts we have ever met on our travels. The food was incredibly good, so don't miss it. Your grandmother would be jealous of their cooking! The rooms were beautiful and clean, with a view to die for. 10 out of 10

A great "hotel," with very romantic rooms and bathrooms in a beautifully styled château. The location is great, too. The owner, David, is an excellent host: very friendly and helpful, and he speaks English and German. The table d'hôtes is highly recommended, with great home-cooked food and excellent service. And of course, enjoy an aperitif in the study. Tip: check-in time is 17:00.

Our host David, the lord of the manor, welcomed us enthusiastically and showed us around the Château. It felt like stepping back in time without giving up any comforts. Our room and en-suite bathroom were beautifully decorated, like the rest of the château. We enjoyed the table d'hôte, which was adapted to accommodate my diet. After dinner, David mingled with the guests and gave us very useful information about our walk and chosen route for the next day. Breakfast was really good and tailored to each guest's preferences, so there was almost no waste. The price depended on which extras, such as meats, cheeses, and eggs, you chose. When we left, David asked us to let him know as soon as we arrived safely at our next place, because he was a little worried about the adventure we were setting out on that day. As it turned out, he was right to be concerned. Although we arrived on foot with backpacks, the host of Château d’Alteville treated us as if we were royalty.
